We were engaged by the City of Melbourne to design and deliver a Performing Arts program, including school workshops, in the lead up to Melbourne Day 175 celebrations.

Using our extensive experience working within schools we took on all of the administration as well as the creative outcome of this project which included:

  • Collaborating with City of Melbourne staff and designing a program to offer in schools throughout the City of Melbourne that would result in a dynamic performance.
  • Engaging the services of a composer and arranger to write a song for the Melbourne Day celebrations which the students would learn and perform.
  • Recording the song ‘Melbourne Day’ and providing teachers with practice tracks
  • Delivering three workshops to each of nine participating schools in the City of Melbourne
  • Supplying teachers with a booklet of resources including sheet music for ‘Melbourne Day’
  • Coordinating the schools’ involvement in Melbourne Day including briefing emails, booking buses, and communicating with teachers
  • Liaising with the PR company regarding media activities promoting Melbourne Day including arranging and attending a number of media activities and representing Melbourne Day in radio and press interviews

The performances on Melbourne Day were the result of six weeks of work shops at the participating schools and were a highlight of the celebrations.

We were thrilled with what the children achieved through their performance and with the feedback we received.

“Thank you for such a great experience! The kids had a ball! We managed to link it to our unit on community – celebrating all things multicultural and what it is to be a Melbournian!”
Elise Andrew – Kensington Primary School, Kensington

“We wouldn’t have had the success we have had without a3’s willingness to jump in at short notice for practices and interviews, so thank you very much for being so enthusiastic and getting involved in our campaign. Seeing the kids learn the song was definitely one of the most enjoyable parts of the job!”
Danielle Buller – Professional Public Relations

“Thank you so much for making our 175th birthday so special! I loved the song – particularly about our pride in Melbourne – that’s how I feel every day. Hope you all do too!”
Robert Doyle – Lord Mayor of Melbourne
